MUCB BoD to seek opinion on legal action against duo

MARGAO: On the recent controversy with regards to the gold ornaments missing from Madgaum Urban Cooperative Bank locker, the Board of Directors at its meeting on Thursday has decided to seek opinion to take legal action against Eder D’Silva and Filomena D’Silva for defaming bank’s image.
The Board officials claim that they did not react earlier since the missing gold was traced and handed over to the owner.
In an elaborate hypothetical presentation, Chairman Kishor Amonkar, said the 70-year-old Mrs Filomena D’Silva could have possibly taken out the gold, when she had visited the locker, and placed the same back in another which was situated on the top-left of her locker. According to Amonkar, the other locker was kept unlocked since it was unused. The bank officials claim that they recovered the gold from the unused locker.
Not convinced with the explanation, the media persons asked several questions such as, once the police complaint was filed, why did the bank officials tamper with the crime scene and search the other lockers? Why did the bank not search other lockers in the presence of the police? Has the bank destroyed any evidence such as fingerprints by touching the gold and locker? Now that the bank claims that the open unused locker led to the confusion, has the bank rectified the issue and locked the unused locker to prevent future incidents? Whether the Board will apologise to the customer?” to which the Chairman could not provide any satisfactory answers.
He stated that the other unused lockers have not been locked and that the board will not issue an apology.
