MARGAO: Even as the Cuncolim police have registered a case against an unknown Coast Guard navigator for the mid-sea mishap, senior police officials said the investigations into the episode would be taken over by the Yellow Gate police station, Mumbai if it is proved if the mishap had taken place beyond 12 nautical miles from the shore.

A senior police officer said that the local police stations have to automatically take over the investigations if any mishap or incident takes place within 12 nautical miles. “The Cuncolim police have registered the case given that it has been stated that the incident has occurred within 12 nautical miles. But, if it is subsequently proved that the incident occurred beyond 12 nautical miles, the Yellow Gate, Mumbai would take over the investigations,” the police officer added.
