MURDER MOST FOUL: UP man murdered over property dispute

Victim tortured to death; tied to a stone and dumped into river at Gaundalim; three brothers among four arrested

PANJIM: Three brothers are among four persons who have been arrested by Old Goa Police for allegedly murdering a native of Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh over a property dispute.

As per the details provided by North Goa Superintendent of Police (SP) Nidhin Valsan, the victim has been identified as 32-year-old Chandriraka alias ‘Gabbar’ Sahani, a native of Mirzapur Bazar, Uttar Pradesh and was temporarily residing at Taleigao.

The victim’s body was found floating in the river at Carambolim with hands and legs tied to a heavy stone using nylon ropes. The body was retrieved and sent to GMC and the autopsy reports indicated that it could be a murder.

Meanwhile the Old Goa police received information about a missing complaint being filed before Porvorim police station. The complainant was the brother of the victim, who identified the body based on a tattoo on one of the arms of the victim. Making a breakthrough in the case, the Old Goa police traced and arrested three brothers namely Rajendra 34, Ranjit 32 and Rajkumar 46 and are on the look out their father  Ramratan Prasad who is on the run. All four are residents of SBI Colony, Altinho, Porvorim. One Akhilesh Kumar Sahani, 30, who is related to one of the accused has also been placed under arrest for his alleged role in the murder.

Providing the details to the media persons about the murder case, SP Nidhin Valsan informed that the victim Chandriraka has a big family property in Mirzapur and because of a dispute related to the particular property there was a fight among cousin brothers in Mirzapur wherein the victim Chandriraka had assaulted and critically injured the accused persons’ father (Ramratan Prasad) and added that there was an FIR lodged against the Chandriraka in the local police station and was also arrested.

“The children of the person who was critically injured by Chandriraka reside in Goa and decided to take revenge. Once Chandriraka came to Goa, accused Ranjit and Rajendra called the victim to a place on August 23, 2023 from where there took him to their house in Porvorim and tortured him to death. They found him to be motionless and thereafter all four accused planned to dispose of the body. They tied the body with a nylon rope to a stone,

took it in a rented car and dumped it in the river from the Gaundalim Bridge. The body however floated towards Carambolim in four days. The third brother Rajkumar worked as a scout to ensure that nobody was checking and they threw the body in the river,” SP Valsan explained.

Since the body of the victim was tied to a heavy stone, it floated four days later.

Valsan said that a team under Old Goa PI Satish Padwalkar under the supervision of DySP Sudesh Naik meticulously cracked the case and further investigation is in progress.
