MARGAO: With the arrest of four persons, Maina Curtorim police have succeeded in solving the murder of 33-year-old Francisco Carvalho, a resident of Manora Raia, whose body was found on the base of the pillar of old Borim bridge at Vanxem in Loutolim on the morning of September 6.
Initially police had registered a case of unnatural death, but following the post mortem report and based on the complaint lodged by PSI Sanjit Kandolkar, a murder case was registered in the evening as the post mortem report clearly stated that death occurred due to injuries to the kidney and liver.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Raju Raut Dessai formed various teams to solve this blind case and while Maina Curtorim Police Inspector Pravinkumar Vast was heading the investigations, he was backed by six other police inspectors.
The six PIs who also investigated were Sandesh Chodankar, Ravi Dessai, Wilson D’Souza, Tushar Lotlikar, Rahul Parab and Salim Shaikh who were assisted by six police constables and the joint effort resulted in the arrest of the accused.
Police teams scouted the surrounding areas specially concentrating on the bars and learnt that on the intervening night of September 5 and 6 at around 12.30 am at Carlton Bar in Manora Raia, six persons were having drinks when Francisco Carvalho arrived at the bar shouting for drinks.
His behaviour resulted in an argument with the six people having a drink there and ended in a fight where the six assaulted him with a broken bottle and he was stabbed. Subsequently, they apparently took the body and dumped it under the bridge at Vanxem.
DySP Raju Raut confirmed that the murder was done at the bar as they found blood stains there. “It is apparent that they then brought the body to the bridge and dumped it there,” he said.
Following investigations, police have arrested four persons who are 21-year-old Royan Alvares, 34-year-old Vilton Coutinho, 22-year-old Melburn Coutinho all residents of Anuz, Nuvem and 26-year-old Valencio Vas of Minglar, Shiroda.
While police have obtained four-day custody of the four accused, they are still on the lookout for the other two who were part of the group that allegedly committed the murder.
Raju Raut while taking pride in the fact that they could solve the blind murder case within 36 hours appreciated the hard work by the police force who literally stayed awake all nighs to carry out the investigations.
IGP Jaspal Singh has appreciated the good work done by the police and promised the team involved in the investigations a befitting reward shortly.
