PERNEM: Pernem PI Dattaram Raut on Monday said that his police station had nothing to do with the complaint filed by the Forest Department against a beach resort for playing loud music at Ashvem, Mandrem.

“If Forest Department is empowered to take action then why do they want involvement of police? They can take their decision. We have nothing to do,” PI Raut said.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department Range Forest Officer Wild Life and Eco Tourism, Morjim, on Sunday filed a complaint with the Pernem Police Station against loud music played beyond permissible limit with and illumination lights along the coast of Morjim, Mandrem, Ashvem and Arambol.

“Such activities are occurring frequently which are causing damage to the turtle nesting sites as these are located in close proximity,” stated the complaint.

The complaint further states that a similar complaint was filed with police by forest officials on February 24 against Ukiyo Beach Resort at Ashvem for allegedly playing loud music and using light effects at night.

He has urged police to take necessary action in this matter as per the law.

The Ashvem and Morjim beaches are reserved for Olive Ridley turtles nesting during this time of the year and the trans music party organised by the resort at Ashvem was in close proximity to the nesting site, violating provisions of the law.

The party was held for four days where music was played beyond 10 pm.
