MARGAO: South Goa District Collector Venancio Furtado has banned transportation of bauxite ore from Naqueri, Betul, till December 18.
In his order the Collector has told the Deputy Collector Quepem to issue notice to the mine owner to submit registration numbers of the trucks engaged for the transportation of ore. Furtado told the media that the decision on the resumption of ore transportation will be taken only after a meeting with the mine owner and the truck operators.
The Collector’s order comes against the backdrop of an agitation by the truck owners in Salcete and Mormugao against the preferential treatment given to the truck owners from Naqueri.
