MARGAO: Navelim gram sabha today discussed the proposal received from a private telephone companies for setting up mobile towers in the village.
When the sarpanch and secretary informed the gram sabha that Vodafone and Reliance have applied for NOC to set up mobile booster, Eleuterio Carneiro, a villager, requested the secretary to read out both the application to the gram sabha. When read, the word booster was not found in both the applications.
Thereafter, to the question whether the panchayat has issued NOC to these companies, the sarpanch answered in negative.
Eleuterio Carneiro brought to the notice of gram sabha that a tower has been erected on a house in Mandopa ward without NOC and electricity connection is also released for the same.
Stating that there exists a BSNL tower in Mandopa which can be shared by others as per the Supreme Court directives, he said the request should not be entertained.
Gram sabha members also objected to new towers and requested the panchayat not to issue NOCs for the same.
