MARGAO: Residents of Navelim have criticised the manner in which road barriers, without any sign/message have been put in their village and in some cases, stones have been put to indicate blockage of roads. They added that this poses a risk to commuters.
“This was shocking but true. Barricades without the required messaging were put in the middle of the road between Rosary Church Navelim and the Margao flyover taking motorists and riders by surprise,” said Lorna Fernandes of GOACAN.
She gave another example of a barrier without any messaging being put in the middle of the road at Colmorod Navelim, which is contrary to the road safety rules.
Concerns were raised by local residents about the possibility of commuters hitting these barricades at night when visibility is low. The number of accidents that have taken place in various parts of Navelim village recently has also led to locals demanding that the authorities take better action when it comes to ensuring the public’s safety on the roads at all times.
