MARGAO: Tiatr fraternity and the tiatr lovers have urged the government to provide more facilities to help the popular art form to flourish in the State and financial help to the tiatr directors so that they can stage shows abroad.
They shared their views at the first ever inter-school tiatr competition organised by Tiatr Academy of Goa in collaboration with Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on Monday.

“Taking into consideration the number of tiatr shows being staged in other countries and the response from tiatr lovers living there, it is high time the Goa government formulates a scheme to help tiatrists financially to give them more encouragement. It will also help in keeping Konkani alive,” said tiatr director, Alison de Curtorim.
Tiatr lover Agnelo Pereira said, “As a tiatr lover, what I have noticed is that nowadays more shows are being organised in the Gulf and other countries. This gives an opportunity to the Goa government to promote konkani tiatr in foreign countries by helping the fraternity stage shows abroad.”
Anthony Barbosa, a social worker and tiatr lover, appealed to the parents to encourage the acting talent of their children.
Appreciating the efforts of Tiatr Academy for starting with tiatr competition at school level, he further said that Konkani language has been preserved by tiatrists and priests at their respective fields.
Santa Cruz MLA Rudolf Fernandes, who was the chief guest at the event, said that he will request the government to provide more facilities to the tiatrists so that tiatr gets a boost in serving the society, besides preserving Konkani language.
“There is a need to encourage tiatrists and tiatr. Today, tiatr has been recognised as an industry wherein thousands of artistes are earning their livelihood by showcasing their talent through Tiatr. I will request the government to come forward with financial help to all those tiatrists who are staging their shows in the Gulf and other foreign countries,” Fernandes said.
He further opined that supporting a new generation of tiatrists will attract youth towards the art form, besides protecting the Konkani language.
The Chairman of Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, Rajendra Talak, too apraised the TAG and requested the students to participate in tiatr.
