PANJIM: A local person has come under the radar of the Narcotics Control Bureau (Goa sub-zone) after a huge quantum of drugs, a barrel gun and live cartridges were unearthed from his house on the Goa-Maharashtra border on Thursday. Authorities are on the lookout for the man identified as Freddy Domnic Fernandes, reportedly of Goan origin, as per information shared by NCB Superintendent Jitendra Ranjan.
In the raid carried out, the NCB team recovered and seized 1.974 kgs of charas worth Rs 6 lakh besides one single smooth barrel gun and six live cartridges. The gun and the cartridges were handed over to the local police for further investigation while the drugs have been kept in the custody of the NCB for an independent probe including forensic tests, etc.
“We reached the spot after a tip-off about the illegal activity but Freddy was not present. We waited for sometime till his return and later broke open the door to conduct a search operation. Efforts are on to trace his whereabouts and take him into custody for interrogation,” an officer said.
It has come to light that the illegal trade is not the work of a single person as a group of people are clandestinely running the racket in Keri, Arambol and the Maharashtra-Goa border.
