PANJIM: The minority cell of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Goa said that BJP government has not released the annual funds to the Haj Committee for three years, which led to Haj Committee chairman Mohmad Shaikh resigning.
NCP Minority Cell in charge Nazir Khan told the media that the committee didn’t have any difficulty in getting funds when Congress was in power. Shaikh had served as chairman of the Haj Committee when Digambar Kamat was chief minister, Khan said, and they had received Rs 20 lakh as annual orientation expenditure.
Khan said that the report that Shaikh was terminated is false; he, in fact, had resigned protesting the government’s failure to release funds. He said that minority leader Shaikh Jinah has been used by BJP for its own benefits.
“Tell me one single thing which Jinah, being minority chief of BJP in Goa, has done. He has failed to do anything for the minorities,” Khan said, adding the BJP has also failed to form a minority commission in Goa.
Meanwhile, the NCP has also demanded immediate release of pending ration cards and correction of the cards.
It claimed that thousands of people have not received the new ration cards and so are being denied the monthly quota. The party demanded that the quota be released to the people who have not been issued the new ration cards on the old ration cards.
“Government is not bothered about the poor people, there are a lot of issues the poor people are facing due to the new ration cards which were issued without proper planning,” NCP member Trajano D’Mello said.
NCP has demanded that the Minister for Civil Supplies direct the Civil Supplies department to resolve the issue so that the poor people will get their grains without any hassle.
