NCP chief visits State, meets Cong leaders

GPCC President Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Kamat met Pawar in a starred resort in North Goa

PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday met senior Congress leaders from Goa during his personal visit to the coastal State.

While Goa Congress unit claimed it to be a “courtesy visit”, the meeting, which was attended by Pawar’s daughter and Lok Sabha Member of Parliament Supriya Sule, has triggered speculations of pre-poll alliance between both the parties for the 2022 elections.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar and Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat met Pawar in a starred resort in North Goa.

“It was a courtesy visit. We did not discuss politics during the meeting,” Chodankar said. He said that he shares a good bond with Sule.

He, however, rubbished the rumours that there were talks about pre-poll alliance with the NCP leaders.

Sources maintained “when leaders of two parties meet, political talks are bound to happen”.

It can be noted that a week back NCP leader Praful Patel, during his visit to Goa, had categorically ruled out any possibility of pre-poll alliance with the Congress in Goa. He had said that his party is open for alliance with any other party.

Even Congress Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Dundu Rao had said that party will fight alone all 40 seats.
