PANJIM: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday stood firm on its decision of forming an alliance with the Congress and other like-minded parties, while stating that is the only option to defeat the BJP.
Addressing the media, NCP member Churchill Alemao said English is needed for the common man to succeed in life and demanded that primary English schools be provided with grants from the government.
“People don’t give mandate to local parties and I urge the people to tag along with a national party to sort out issues that can’t be sorted out by regional parties,” Alemao said.
Stating that he has no opposition in Benaulim constituency, Alemao said he will continue to fight for Dabolim airport, as once Mopa comes up, Dabolim will be shut down.
Alemao said that without an alliance NCP can field candidates in 36 constituencies and that the party can think of an alliance with Goa Forward but not with Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM).
NCP President, Jose Philip D’Souza said no one should underestimate the NCP and that the party can win without an alliance. “We will take up the issue of nationalisation of rivers,” he said.
He added that Cortalim, Nuvem, Varca, Benaulim, Sanguem, Navelim and Siolim will be the core constituencies for NCP in the 2017 Assembly elections.
