VASCO: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State President Jose Philip D’Souza on Thursday alleged that the BJP government was committing injustice to people by disturbing the traditional Christmas and New Year celebrations and other religious functions by restricting timings.
Reacting to the government’s recent corrigendum to the notification restricting use of loudspeakers up to 10 pm, Jose Philip urged the government not to create tensions by amending notification that disturbs religious functions in the State.
Jose Philip said that for generations together Christmas and New Year celebrations are held across the State by conducting various programmes from 10 pm to 6 am.
He said that midnight mass on Christmas is held to herald the birth of Jesus Christ.
“The recent notification restricting traditional celebrations upto 10 pm will create unwanted tensions,” he added demanding that the government should continue relaxations which were given to 17 festivals.
Jose Philip said that issuing corrigendum to the notification dated February 7, 2022 is a wrong step of the government and is uncalled for to create tensions unnecessarily.
“We want to tell the government that midnight mass for Christmas and New Year must happen at all places at all costs and we request the government not to take such wrong decisions that hurts sentiments of the people of all religions,” he said.
