MAPUSA: Due to irregular water supply, frustrated Chapora locals on Thursday confronted the PWD Water Division official and demanded for regular water supply.
They told the official that the water should be released during the day and not at midnight or wee hours.
Locals alleged that earlier they used to get proper supply of water, however, now the water is being diverted to the hotels.
They further pointed out that they don’t get proper water supply and whenever they do, it is released at midnight or wee hours, which causes major inconvenience to them as they have to stay awake, waiting for water.
They said that there have been instances where they have waited till late night. However, the water was not released.
“Water is released but at late night or wee hours that too only for few minutes and with very low pressure. We have raised our difficulties to the concerned department several times. However, there was no positive outcome,” an affected local said.
“Every month is the same issue. We are paying the bills on time even when we hardly receive any water. If any day the water is released with high pressure, then for the next eight days there is not a single drop of water flowing,” locals said.
“If there is a problem with the water pipeline then the PWD should supply water through the tankers. There is only one tanker to cater the Chapora area,” they added.
“We cannot stay awake till late night or disturb our sleep by waking up in the middle of night or week hours. Our only request is that the water should be released during the day. It can be for few hours but during the day,” the women of Chapora said.
“No regular supply of water for the past several months and if the water is released it is done in the night. There is no fix time. Out of option, we have to stay awake looking at tap for water to flow,” a local Sagun Shirodkar said.
