SANGUEM: Irked over the power failures for the last three consecutive days, around 100 residents of Neturlim and Wadem on Wednesday marched to the substation at Wadem and sought to know from the officials the reasons behind the problems in the two villages.
If this is the case during the first rain, the villagers wondered what would be the scenario once the monsoon sets in.
The villagers complained of experiencing similar problem last monsoon and had to literally remain in total darkness for nearly five days.
The officials cited uprooting of trees at two places as the reason for power cuts in the two villages during the last three days.
The villagers were irked over the failure of the Electricity Department officials at the Wadem substation to restore the power supply in the two villagers even after clearing the trees.
They refused to leave the sub power station till the power supply to the villages was restored.
Power was restored only after the arrival of Executive Engineer Mashelkar, Assistant Engineer Sanguem Dinesh Gomes and other officials.
When the officials arrived, the villagers complained to them about the “indifferent” attitude of the department officials at Wadem substation, as the villagers accused them sitting idle for most part of the day.
After lending a patient ear to the villagers’ grievances, AE Mashelkar assured to change the staff at Wadem substation within eight days and promised to hold a review meeting in the village within two days.
It is pertinent to note that whenever there is a power cut in the village, the water supply and telephone services also get affected in Wadem and Neturlim.
Incidentally, Amit Naik, a villager has been doing a follow up of power and drinking water supply issues for many days.
