MARGAO: Maina Curtorim police, on Tuesday morning, rescued a new born baby that was abandoned by its parents at Fondegal in Curtorim close to the Ramnagiri junction.
Police were informed about the abandoned child by a bystander. A villager, moved by its plight, took the child to the Primary Health Centre at Curtorim from where police took custody of the child and got it admitted to the paediatrics ward at Hospicio for treatment.
Investigating Officer PSI Rohan Nagueskar said efforts are on to identify the child’s parents. The police will also approach the Child Welfare Committee for permission to admit the child at Matruchaya once it is discharged from Hospicio.
Police have registered a case of exposure and abandonment of a child under Section 317 of the Indian Penal Code and also under Section 8 of Goa Children Act against unknown persons who presumably will be the child’s parents, said the investigating officer.
