PONDA: Welcoming the State government’s move to construct a third bridge across the Mandovi river, the Ponda Vikas Samithi (PVS) appealed to the government not to ignore the demand for a new bridge at Khandepar in Ponda.
In a press note, PVS President Ram Kuncolkar and Secretary Milind Madgut called the attention of the State government towards the dilapidated, old and narrow Khandepar bridge saying that this old bridge constructed during the Portuguese reign, could collapse anytime.
PVS said two four wheelers cannot pass each other at once on this narrow bridge, which serves as a major link for interstate transportation of essential commodities from Belgaum to Goa.
They said people from Ponda have been demanding a new bridge over the last several years, but successive governments have overlooked their demands and representations.
