It may be recalled that MMC had constructed 44 shops on the first floor of the new fish market, which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on January 26.
The pork and beef vendors had written to the MMC expressing their inability to occupy the shops on the first floor, on grounds that transporting the heavy meat on the first floor of the new fish market would be a big problem.
Admitting their argument as genuine, the MMC has now proposed to construct separate stalls for them in the market. Some of the existing 44 shops on the first floor of the new fish market will be allotted to chicken vendors and MMC plans to auction the remaining shops.
The issue had come up for discussion during the recent council meeting. Councillor Ashish Shirodkar raised the objection and questioned MMC Chairperson Sandeep Falari why the problem was not considered initially while constructing the fish market.
“This situation would not have arisen if all the stakeholders were taken into confidence before preparing the plan of the fish market,” argued Shirodkar.
