New tender floated for jetty-cum-pontoon at Chorao

PANJIM: After its first attempt elicited poor response, the River Navigation Department (RND) has floated a new tender to construct a 12-metre floating jetty-cum-pontoon worth Rs 96.65 lakh at Chorao.

The fresh tender has been floated for design, construction and installation of a concrete floating jetty near the Chorao ferry ramp.

The successful bidder will design, construct, supply, install and commission the IRC Class RCC Floating Jetty Pontoon near the Chorao ferry ramp with adequate gangway ladder for landing from mainland. The tender value is set at Rs 96,65,333.

It is the second attempt by the RND as earlier attempt to tender the work had received lukewarm response from bidders.

Speaking to O Heraldo, a senior official of River Navigation Department said, “We have refloated it as there was only a single party which had participated in the bid. Whether it is design, construction, installation or commissioning, everything will have to be done by the new bidder. The design should be approved by IIT, Madras. It should be IRS certified. It will replace the existing old pontoon which is plastic. The size will of 12×3 metres.”

The floating jetty will have a warranty period of two years.

The River and Navigation Department had earlier floated the bid to construct the jetty-cum-pontoon in December last year.
