NGO complains against mud dump on Cuncolim road

Says the mud dump has already taken the life of a woman from Panzorcone; Demands criminal proceedings against officers concerned

MARGAO: The Green Goa Foundation has filed a complaint regarding a stretch of road from Cuncolim bus stand to Dandowado on the National Highway 17 where red mud has been dumped by PWD negligently and carelessly has become slippery due to rains. 
On June 18, one Martinha Hilaria Pereira, residing at Panzorcone, Cuncolim, was walking on the side of the road on that stretch where red mud has been dumped. She fell down on mud and a bus which was passing by went over her. The said lady suffered grievous injuries in the said accident. She was admitted to GMC where she succumbed to her injuries suffered by her in the accident. 
“Martinha Hilaria Pereira met with accident and expired because of negligence and carelessness shown by your office. Your office failed to carry out your duty of fixing road properly and making it safe of the pedestrians. The said lady lost her life and trauma and loss suffered by her family members is due to your office. Your office and concerned officers are responsible for it. Citizens are paying tax to get the benefit of proper and good roads,” wrote GGF in its complaint. 
“We request, you to immediately inspect the said stretch of road from Cuncolim bus stand to Dandowado by giving us prior intimation and carry out work putting tar on the said road and thereby making it safe for citizens,” GGF said. 
GGF has also requested the PWD to take departmental action and criminal proceedings against the officers concerned and contractor who is responsible for this negligence and carelessness.
