VASCO: During a media interaction on board amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor at Mormugao harbour on Thursday, the US military officials said that the crew members onboard the ship are very much excited to participate in the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, and learn more about Indian traditions.
“Our crew is excited to participate in the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, and learn more about Indian traditions. There are a multitude of events that have been scheduled that allow us to connect with the people of Goa. For example, sailors and marines from the ships intend to conduct to a community outreach event to a local orphanage” said Lieutenant Colonel James Stover, Commander of Troops, leading embarked elements of the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Commander Theodore Essenfeld, USS Pearl Harbor’s commanding officer said that the all the crew members of the ship are excited to participate in the Ganesh Chaturthi festival, and learn more about Indian traditions.
“In addition to our stated mission, the sailors and marines of USS Pearl Harbor look forward to experiencing the history and culture of India. Goa is renowned as one of India’s most beautiful regions and it is fortuitous that we are arriving during the Ganesh Festival where we will have an opportunity to learn about and experience this holiday honouring Ganesh, and celebrating him as the god of good beginnings, prosperity and as a remover of life’s obstacles. We all look forward to the hospitality of the Indian people, the rich culture, and world famous Indian cuisine. This will be an unforgettable experience for us all,” he said.
