NGO demands action against ‘inefficient police’, heavy vehicles’ violations in Cuncolim

MARGAO: NGO Green Goa Foundation (GGF) has called for action against allegedly inefficient police personnel deployed in Cuncolim and heavy vehicles that continue to ply on the National Highway, despite a notification mandating their diversion.

In a letter addressed to the District Magistrate of South Goa, GGF highlighted the truck drivers’ lack of compliance with the notification, emphasising the need to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles and the requirement for police personnel to enforce and implement the notification effectively.

GGF slammed the inefficiency of the police deployed on National Highway 66 and the internal roads near Cuncolim schools, alleging that they are incapable of managing the traffic situation.

Raison Almeida, Chairman of GGF, recounted an incident on October 6 when the police, while on duty, allowed heavy vehicles and buses to pass through, causing a major traffic jam.

This delay affected school students, office-goers, and even doctors trying to reach their workplaces on time.

Almeida warned that if any untoward incident occurs due to the presence of heavy vehicles and the failure to follow the ‘no entry’ directives, the district office would be directly held responsible.
