PONDA: It has been doubly grilling for youth arriving to Goa for Army recruitment until last year as aspirants had to run from pillar to post to arrange for their daily basic requirements—food and shelter–during their stay.
This year’s candidates are lucky enough as some NGOs relieved them by supplying the necessities.
So far according to NGO, People of Ponda (PoP), who with support of government and army took initiative during first three days, provided lunch and dinner to more than 4500 youth, made arrangements for their stay in Shamiyana (tents) with bio-toilets at sports complex.
PoP said, in in next three days the number of arrivals would cross 8000. Beside PoP, the Muslim Communities at Curti along with Noorani Masjid had also supported the youth by providing food and also allowing them to use toilets, wash rooms.
POP actively working members Dr.Rajendra Dev, Dr. Ragunandan, Sudesh Narvekar said they are happy to serve future soldiers.
According to PoP members army recruitment test are happening in Ponda since past many years on small scale but first time around eight thousands youth are expected for recruitment rally.
Recruitment rally began from January 31 and will continue till February 6. According to PoP on February 2 food distributed to 2100 youth, while on January 31 were 1150, and on February 1 there were 750 aspirants.
Youth expressed gratitude to these NGOs for providing some relief to them.
