CALANGUTE: The North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) carried out a joint site inspection of Namesh Hotels and Resorts located at Tivai Vaddo, Calangute following a complaint about illegalities at the site, on Wednesday.
The owners of the project located in land Survey No159/3, however, kept away from the site inspection.
The NGPDA officials led by R K Pandita, member secretary, inspected all the sites relating to illegal land filling, construction and other illegalities at the project site. A large number of locals were present outside the project including the members of Save Calangute. Anthony Menezes was also present at the inspection site. Another joint site inspection will be held by the Village Panchayat of Calangute on Thursday.
Speaking to Herald, Salvador Lobo said, “The owners of the project had enough time to remove the iron rods of footings, constructions, etc, and cover it with mud. The construction is going on within the 200 meters HTL and how they have the permissions is not known to us. If the project is legal in the CRZ area then all our existing houses should also be legal. It is high time the people of Calangute come together and fight such illegalities which benefit the non-Goan builders’ lobby.”
Nitesh Chodankar of Save Calangute, said, “If the project of Namesh Hotels and Resorts within the 200 meters of HTL is legal then all the houses in the coastal village of Calangute are also legal. We need to be vigilant and fight against such illegal projects coming up in the coastal areas of Calangute.”
“The builders have destroyed sand dunes, done illegal land filling, illegal construction in the CRZ areas and it is time authorities stop it now, before it is too late,” said Cruz.
