PANJIM: The Pune Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Monday lifted its stay order on the GCZMA (Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority) order to demolish Curlies shack situated as Anjuna.
NGT was hearing an appeal field by Linnet Nunes, owner of Curlies shack, challenging the GCZMA order for demolition of the shack. Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority had ordered demolition of the shack after finding that it was violating various environmental laws. On Monday the NGT bench, comprising Justice U D Salvi and Ajay Deshpande, passed the order to demolish the structure.
Nunes had earlier appealed in the High Court of Bombay at Goa but this was later withdrawn and the appeal made before the NGT.
The GCZMA order is consequent to a complaint by social activist Kashinath Shetye who had contended that Curlies shack is operating in violation of a series of environment protections rules.
The shack has faced a series of controversies with the ACB (Anti-Corruption Bureau) also investigating a case against revenue officers and the shack owner for allegedly forging government documents to submit in court to legalise the structure.
ACB officials said that the Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar, land survey officers and secretary of village panchayat are involved in criminal conspiracy to fabricate the government records.
