PERNEM: The ongoing work of the six-lane highway project from Dhargal to Patradevi is haunting the commuters, especially motorists. The potholes developed on the road due to rains have put people’s life at risk as heavy vehicles move on this stretch day and night.
The areas, specially from Colvale Bridge to Dhargal, Virnoda to Malpe, Satarda Railway bridge to Ugave and part of Torxem and Patradevi are the most affected since these stretches have developed numerous potholes.
While some people have complained of health issues others have reported injuries after falling down due to the slippery road. Locals also complained that the concerned in-charge is not taking steps to cover up the potholes in time.
“The mud, which came down on the road after the landslide, is still lying unattended on the road. Instead of removing the mud and clearing the road, diversion is made from an old road. Now this diverted road is confusing the people because there are no proper sign-boards installed,” said N Naik, a local.
“For the past one year, the contractor is only dumping mud on the road. Only few stretches are concretised but the remaining is filled only with mud. The concerned authorities have failed to complete the work on time which is why the common man is suffering,” locals claimed.
“Heavy vehicles move on this road throughout the day. There are big potholes on the road due to which it’s difficult to drive. We cannot make out the depth of the potholes as they are filled with rain water. This has caused vehicles to get damaged. Elderly people have also complained of back-bone problems, caused when trying to get past the potholes,” said Manohar Naik.
