PERNEM: Burglars broke into five temples in Pernem and Tuem and decamped with cash of Rs 24,000.
Police informed that a committee member of Shri Bhagwati temple at Pernem and Tuem has filed a complaint about burglary.
The burglars broke the temple gates to gain entry and emptied donation boxes off the cash.
Pernem temple committee secretary Jagannath Nagvekar informed that the culprits initially broke opened the temple gate and then broke the two donation boxes containing Rs 20,000 approximately.
In another incident, culprits broke into four different temples located at Tuem. Culprits broke opened the Bhagwati, Narayan, Mahadev and Sateri temples located in Tuem.
However, since the committee had recently removed money from donation boxes of Bhagwati, Narayan and Mahadev temples, the culprits could get Rs 4000 from Sateri temple.
Both the incidents came into light early morning on Friday when the priests visited the temple to conduct regular puja who informed the temple committees who complained to Pernem police.
Pernem police teams rushed to the crime spots and conducted panchanama. A finger print expert and a dog squad pressed into service to collect evidence.
