PORVORIM/PANJIM: A Nigerian youth was found brutally murdered at a house in Parra on Wednesday night.
According to Mapusa police, a Nigerian filed a complaint stating that his colleague, Obina Poul Obirace, who was in his mid-twenties, had been murdered by locals at Lobowado-Parra.
Acting on the complaint, Mapusa Police rushed to the spot and found the body of Obirace lying in a pool of blood, with the right fingers severed from the wrist, six cuts on the left leg and injuries to the lower limb.
Police also took into possession a motorcycle used by the deceased.
Accusing some locals in the murder of their colleague, a large number of Nigerians demanded the immediate arrest of the accused. A team of police officers led by DySP Mahesh Gaunkar, Mapusa Police Inspector Tushar Vernekar, Calangute Police Inspector Nilesh Rane and Pernem PI Tushar Lotlikar rushed to the spot to take control of the situation.
Bardez Deputy Collector Sabaji Shetye also visited the site to pacify the agitated Nigerians.
Speaking to Herald, a neighbour said she had noticed the body at about 6.30 am and had initially assumed that the man had collapsed after being intoxicated. She denied having heard any quarrel or fights in the house, but admitted that the area was frequently noisy due to the presence of foreigners.
Mapusa Police has registered the offence under Sections 143, 147, 148, 302, 307, 326, 332, 341, 343, 427, 504, 506 of Indian Penal Code and is investigating the case.
