PANJIM: While the day belonged to Goa Assembly Speaker Rajendra Arlekar being his birthday Tuesday, it was Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral who stole the limelight raising key issues in the House over the delay in appointment of the GSIC, hardships over submission of C forms faced by foreigners visiting Goa and lastly demanding a breach of privilege against the Goa Film Federation for criticising the congratulatory motion on the film Digant which was officially nominated for the Cannes Film Festival.
Cabral who had moved the congratulatory motion hailing the film producer and director over selection of the film along took strong objections to statements from the FFFG demanding an inquiry from the Speaker into the congratulatory motion.
“Who is the FFFG to question the motion moved in the House and to demand a breach of privilege motion,” asked Cabral in an agitated mood.
It may be recalled that the FFFG demanded an inquiry from the Goa Assembly Speaker whether the House was misinformed by the director and producer of the film as it did not feature in the final list at Cannes.
D’Mello had told the media last week that false and misleading information had been provided to the members of the Goa Assembly.
Cabral maintained the view that the motion congratulating Dyanesh Moge and Sanjay Shetye for their film Digant was not wrong in any way as it had been selected by the Directorate of Film Festival of India along with three other Indian films for the Cannes festival.
Meanwhile Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai congratulated the recipients of the Yuva Srujun Puraskar namely Sidhanath Buyao and Manohar Bhingui for bringing laurels to Goa.
While supporting the motion St Andre MLA Vishnu Wagh, Dayanand Mandrekar the minister for Art and Culture and Lavoo Mamladar MLA of Ponda congratulated the entire group of 16 artists who bagged the awards.
