Election Commission of India (ECI) has held that there was no violation of Model Code of Conduct by Ramakant Khalap as chairman of Goa Law Commission.ECI gave its verdict after the matter was referred to it by the local office of Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) following complaints filed by BJP and others.
Media reports of alleged misuse of his position as Chairman of Goa Law Commission against Khalap were also taken suo moto locally. The matter
was later referred to New Delhi.
Investigating into the matter, ECI found that there was no truth in the
allegation as Khalap had not been allotted any chamber to function as
chairman. He was practically not functioning as chairman of Law
Commission, it found.
