Nilgiri Project officials told compensate 20 investors

VASCO, MAY 14 The Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Margao, has asked the president and vice president of Nilgiri Plantation Project II to compensate its 20 investors for alleged deficiency in service, as denied under Consumer Protection Act 1986.

20 investors for alleged deficiency in service, as denied under

Consumer Protection Act 1986.
In his order, Forum President Jadish Prabhudesai has stated Nilgiri

project President Pedro Almeida and Vice President Bhujballi are

jointly liable to compensate 20 complainants to pay each of the

complainants Rs 64,620.
The order also asked them to the interest @ 12% per annum from the date

of the maturity of the scheme till the final payment, within 30 days

from the receipt of order.
According to the order, about 18 years ago, the complainants were asked

to invest Rs 10,000 per head in Nilgiri Plantation Project II and after

seven years the investment would yield Rs 64,620.
However, on completion of the stipulated period, president and vice

president of Nilgiri project failed to honour the agreement and dragged

the matter for another two years by giving foul assurances to the

investors.
Constant foul assurances and authenticity of the project forced the

investors to file complaints with Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum in

2003.
