MARGAO: Former chief minister, Digambar Kamat has declined to comment on the High Court directions to register FIR against the 151 persons indicted in the Shah Commission report in the illegal mining case.
“I have nothing to comment. The High Court had issued the directions. They have to act as per the directions”, Kamat told Herald, when asked for his comment on the High Court directions.
Replying to a question, the former chief minister, who also held the Mines portfolio for around a decade, said he has already spoken his mind in respect of his name figuring in the Shah Commission report.
Kamat had in September last asserted that the Shah panel has not indicted him in the illegal mining case, saying the Commission had only made a passing reference to the condonation of delay in respect of the 11 cases.
According to Kamat, 11 out of the 42 cases were condoned during his tenure with opinion of the Law Department, saying that any action or decision of the State government was always open for review before an appellate authority.
Incidentally, Kamat had boldly stated that no case has been made out against him as Mines Minister in the entire Shah panel report and had in fact his detractors to peruse the report before making allegations.
The High Court had earlier this week directed the government to file FIR within six weeks against the 151 persons named in the Shah Commission report, including politicians, bureaucrats and those connected to the illegal mining trade.
