MAPUSA: Cloth merchant Ashish Shirodkar said demonetization affected traders and consumers for the first quarter. But in the second quarter things went back to normal and today people have got used to it.
However, he questioned the motive saying if it was done to clean black money; people who had hard-earned money were also forced to suffer. “To cope up with demonetisation, people have started online banking, which has made the transactions easy for everyone,” he said.
The owner of Mahalaxi medical store said their business was normal as demonetisation has not affected them in any way. We have a rolling business due to which we faced no problems.
“Demonetization has affected only those who were more into illegal transactions,” he pointed out.
Another trader Mahesh Naik said during the first two months the business was good where people who had money stocked up, got it out and shopped briskly, which in turn benefited us with an increase in sale, but now the business has totally gone down since there is no free movement of cash and people are having a second thought before buying electric items.
Also, since there are no much cash transactions, people are more into online shopping than actual shopping, he said.
