The Sanguem Industrial Estate, opened in 2001, is yet to have the desired infrastructural facilities in place despite couple of big industries having set up their factories in the premises.
Spread over 498,859 sq mtrs and located around 5 kms from the Sanguem town, the Estate is located in the deep interiors of Uguem village. Companies, which have set up their plants there, are facing the problem of transportation from Dando as the narrow road to the Estate passes through the remote wards of Cottarli and Dabamol of Uguem. The road from Dando has maximum width of eight metres and it becomes practically difficult for heavy trailers to use the narrow road for the transportation of material from the industries. Given the narrow condition of the road, the villagers residing at Orcotto, Cotarli and Dabamol have been frequently resorting to the blockade of the road for heavy trailers transporting materials from the industries on account of snapping of electricity cables providing power to residential houses.
Incidentally in order to do away from the road blockades by the villagers, the companies are seen using small pickups to transport materials during day time. However, taking advantage of the darkness at night, the companies are found using heavy trailers to transport the materials. The villagers in their recent memorandum to the authorities in Sanguem have demanded complete stoppage of the movement of the trailers in the village till the time the road is widened.
