PANJIM: The Revolutionary Goans Party on Tuesday demanded that the Persons of Goan Origin (POGO) Bill be introduced in the Goa Assembly in the upcoming monsoon session starting from July 11.

Speaking to reporters, RGP President Manoj Parab said, “We have given a copy of the POGO Bill to the Governor, Speaker and all the MLAs. The Bill should come up for discussion on Private Member’s Day during the session.”

Parab charged that no government had tried to protect the identify of the State nor it defined Goan.

He said that the Assembly will get an opportunity to define Goan and people should know who are “Niz Goenkar” and they should get their rights.

“Today anybody comes and claims to be Goan. It won’t be tolerated in future,” he said. St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar condemned the government’s move to curtail the month-long Assembly session.

He said that he was first time MLA and that people of Goa had not witnessed a full-fledged Assembly session for the last few years.

He hoped that the monsoon session will be held as per the schedule so that all the members who have tabled several Legislative Assembly questions will get an opportunity to raise the issues concerning the State.
