No hearing on mines resumption

NEW DELHI: For the second consecutive day on Thursday, the Supreme Court could not take up the hearing on resumption of the iron ore mining in Goa that was stalled by a judgment in February 2018 by one of its Benches, directing the State government to auction the mines afresh.

The case was listed as Item No 18 before the bench of Justices Dr D Y Chandrachud and M R Shah, but the court rose before its turn came and so it may not be listed latest by late next week, the lawyers said.

They were anxious that the case comes up for hearing as it may then become clear as to what happened to the pending decision by the same Bench on the review petitions of the Goa government and others. The hearing in the instant case was adjourned on February 4 since the review decision is yet to be pronounced.
