VASCO: Dr Succor Carvalho of the Cortalim PHC has informed that despite a monkey infected with Kyasanur Forest Disease, which was found dead a month ago, fortunately the disease has not spread in the village.
According to Carvalho, on April 16 2018, he received information that a monkey has been found dead inside the Government Primary School at Panjantar, Cortalim. The Animal Husbandry and Forest Department officials were immediately alerted.
“The forest department officials took custody of the dead monkey. A post mortem was conducted and later samples were collected. On May 28, the report confirmed that the monkey died of KFD.”
We started surveillance in the area but till date we have not received any case of money fever from that area,” Carvalho informed.
“In fact we played down the incident because we did not want public to panic but our seniors were informed on the same and they monitored the situation. If there were cases then we would have gone all out and now as the incubation period is over there is no reason for the locals to panic,” he added.
