‘No more KTC white elephant bus stands’

Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has said that the government does not want more KTC bus stand.

PORVORIM: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho has said that the government does not want more KTC bus stand ‘white elephants’ and said he would review the proposed KTC bus terminal project at Quepem, the foundation stone for which was laid last year.  Godinho said that the department will  conduct a fresh feasibility study and review the project to ensure that the facility does not end up being a “white-elephant”. The proposed project is estimated at Rs 25.94 crore.

The Minister said that bus terminals constructed at Honda, Cuncolim and Shiroda, by spending almost Rs 25-30 crore each, ended up being white elephant and shelter homes for stray cattle. “I don’t want another white elephant. We will have to review the project…will have to do a feasibility study to ascertain whether there is really a need. For now, we are not going ahead with the project, though it is already tendered,” he said.
