MAPUSA: Accusing the MLAs of Tiswadi taluka of being politically incapable, Deputy Speaker Michael Lobo said, “All the MLAs of Tiswadi are trying to see if they can dump all their garbage at the Saligao waste treatment plant. They are politically incapable of having their own garbage plant to treat their own garbage.”
He said that the land acquired 15 years ago for the plant at Baiguinim is lying abandoned.
Claiming that the Saligao plant was planned to handle garbage of the costal belt, Lobo said, “But for the last three months, trucks of garbage from other areas are being dumped here. The garbage dump has gone beyond capacity and the people living in the vicinity of the plant have started getting the stink.”
The capacity of the plant is 125 tonnes per day, however around 200 tonnes of garbage is getting dumped every day, he said.
