PANJIM: A car was almost washed away at Caranzalem beach when a group of tourists drove the vehicle onto the restricted area despite warnings from locals.
The car, bearing registration number WB-06-J-5276, was retrieved with the help of a towing vehicle and the tourists had a narrow escape.
The local authorities have been consistently warning visitors to the beach not to drive their vehicles onto the sand and water, as these not only pose a risk to themselves but also to others as well as damage the ecology.
“This is a recent fad of driving/parking of cars/two wheelers by tourists and locals on Caranzalem beach. They put loud music too. It is a danger to those walking on the beach. Please ban this,” a local has urged Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander, in the wake of the incident.
Locals have also been alleging that fishing trucks are also driven right up to the beach.
