MARGAO: Against the backdrop of major accidents in Chinchinim, the South Goa District Collector passed orders for demarcating no parking zones, while the Salcete Deputy collector gave permission for trimming of trees.
Chinchinim–Deussua Sarpanch Valentino Barretto had earlier approached the South Goa District Collector and the Salcete Deputy Collector undertaking these works.
Collector Asvin Chandur, IAS passed an order to notify the stretch of 30 metres on National Highway (NH)-66 road near the entrance of Sarzora Church road on both sides, as ‘No Parking’ for all types of vehicles. The District Collector also shared the rough sketch to the PWD and directed them to erect the signboards too and asked for an action taken report with photographs of the work executed within 30 days.
On the other hand, the Salcete Deputy Collector gave permission to the Chinchinim village panchayat for cutting and trimming of dangerous trees along NH-17 of the Dandevaddo-Bandfoll section in the village jurisdiction.
The Dy Collector asked the Chinchinim Panchayat secretary to take the further needful action in order to avert any untoward incidents.
It may be recalled that the frequent occurrence of accidents in the village has been a cause of concern with repetitive pleas made to the authorities for corrective action to be initiated. Two accidents were reported recently on the Chinchinim-Assolna route as well.
