PANJIM: The residents of Chorao are upset with the authorities for failing to take necessary action to prevent the regular occurrence of water overflowing onto the road to the ferry point, which has made it extremely difficult for commuters to cross the road.
Locals pointed out that road get inundated with water whenever there is high tide off late and this has posed a danger not only to them but also their vehicles.
Given that the majority of the local population uses the ferry to get to Panjim and other parts of Goa, the road to the ferry point is heavily frequented and this issue has inconvenienced many.
Videos of people helping out those persons whose vehicles were stuck in the water, get across the other side of the road by pushing their vehicles have gone viral on social media as well.
Locals questioned why the authorities including the panchayat, the government departments concerned and the local MLA had failed to take cognisance of this matter and why prevention action was not taken in advance to avoid this scenario from taking place.
They asked who will compensate for damage caused to their vehicles.
Revolutionary Goans (RG) leaders had also stated that the damaged bunds is the main reason for water flooding the Pomburpa-Chodan road and fields leaving drivers and passengers stranded due to the water level.
“It has been witnessed that after the saline water from the river breached the bunds in the Chorao area and made it dangerous for people travelling in vehicles through this route during high tide,” said RG General Secretary Shrikrishna Parab.
