MARGAO: Goans for Goa (GFG) has vehemently opposed the government’s move to introduce an “anti-people” bill in the forthcoming Assembly session to regularise illegal constructions on land belonging to the comunidades and government.
“This bill seeks to reward the one who has carried out the illegality – mostly migrants – and punish Goan land owners for no reason whatsoever. It can only be seen as a bill introduced by the government with an eye on vote banks,” said Kennedy Afonso, GFG president.
GFG has also extended support to the ‘Ghathavoilya Goankaracho Ekvot’, which has been formed to fight this bill. It further stated that it wants to give a wakeup call to all comunidade bodies to join hands, after which they would be a force to be reckoned with.
GFG, in its “Peoples Manifesto”, which it would release soon, has included the protection of comunidade land as one of its top ten priorities, and as such, it will work with the comunidades and restore them to their former glory.
The group is presently in touch with other associations and is trying to launch a sustained agitation against this bill. It will start with a massive public meeting at Lohia Maidan soon.
