CANACONA: Canacona municipal councillors have requested the CMC chairperson to remove the vendors who are operating on footpaths, thereby obstructing the smooth flow of traffic and increasing the risk of accidents.
They said that a resolution for the same had been passed around one-and-a-half months ago, but nothing had been done thereafter.
Incidentally, the new market complex was inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza around three months ago, but it is yet to become operational. The reason cited by D’Souza is that the building has not been given a power connection and the Town and Country Planning office has not handed over occupancy certificates.
The councillors have also claimed that many seasonal shacks and tents are operating without NOCs from fire and emergency services.
More than two hundred shacks and tent in the coastal areas of Canacona are functioning without firefighting equipment and NOCs, and the authorities are doing nothing but playing with the lives of tourists, said Dayanand Pagui, councillor of Palolem ward.
Councillor Shyam Sunder Desai added that if the MMC takes action against these illegal structures, then it can earn lakhs of rupees.
