No social distancing observed at Margao’s wholesale fish market

Margao: As the death toll due to COVID-19 reaches 30 in Goa, it appears that some people are not yet paying heed to the advisories with no social distancing norms seen at the SGPDA wholesale fish market.

The Traders and the SGPDA had met the Collector and the police and sworn that they will maintain social distancing in wake of the infection spreading rapidly. However, on the ground, little is working out. The markings made for fish vehicles to park and sell, the announcements that were promised were missing.  The fish trucks again resorted to selling fish outside the market.

SGPDA Chairman Wilfred D’sa said that even after putting up boards, markings and putting system the crowding of people continues. “We have had police and SGPDA staff on ground to make sure the social distancing norms and discipline is maintained. Now, we have put barricades and will see the result tomorrow” said Wilfred.

The work of repairing street lights and placing boards of notices regarding distancing and also the rates for the vehicles has been completed.
