No-trust storm against MMC Vice Chairperson calms down

A Vijai-backed minority councillor may be propped up later to replace Dorris Texeira

MARGAO: The storm in the Margao Municipal Council for the ouster of Vice Chairperson Dorris Texeira (of the Digambar Kamat camp) has suddenly calmed down after the city fathers’ wait for the fire to burn itself out. The TCP Minister has hinted that the developments on this front will be smooth, consensual and soon.
TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai who is in total control of the council now has said that he has left the decision of no-confidence motion or no no-confidence motion to his council members who are sizable in number.
While Texeira, who ruled out the possibility of resigning or any no-confidence motion against her, sang praises of Sardesai, the minister himself had a different story to tell. “I personally believe that there may be no need for a no-confidence motion now. Once with majority one shouldn’t have the arrogance and should take all together,” he said.
When asked whether or not the seat will be vacated he said, “I am not saying that the seat won’t be vacated but whatever happens will happen smoothly, with consensus and soon.” Sardesai, however, has clarified that there is no successor planned for the seat.
However, according to sources, Sardesai is toying with the option of controlling both the number one and two positions of the MMC by bringing in his own Councillor Tito Cardozo to replace Texeira, and not someone backed by the BJP. The timing and the decision itself is yet to be finalised. Cardozo’s name is likely to be propped up to ensure that a minority Vice Chairperson is replaced with another member of the minorities, in a place as sensitive to these issues as Margao.
