PANJIM: Condemning the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti’s (HJS) remark of making a ‘Goa Files’ film on the Portuguese inquisition, Jnanpith Awardee Damodar Mauzo on Saturday accused the right-wing outfit of trying to disturb the harmony and peace existing Goa.
“This is very sad. Goa has a history and nobody can just wipe it out, rather we should look forward to a better future,” Mauzo told O Heraldo in an exclusive chat in the studios of Herald TV.

Mauzo said that ‘The Kashmir Files’ and ‘The Kerala Story” films were opposed by the people and these elements just wanted to ignore that the country had not accepted it. Even at the 53rd International Film festival of India (IFFI), the jury head said that ‘The Kashmir Files’ was a ‘propaganda’ movie. They want to spoil the texture of Goa.
“Goa has experienced so many things in the past i.e. 300 years and 500 years back. That’s history and we have to accept it. We cannot wipe out history. We should look forward to a better future, and a better future lies in peaceful exemplary harmony. Goa can be leaders for the rest of the country to show how we can lead in a peaceful manner,” he said.
“Don’t try to spoil the character of Goa by bringing ‘Goa Files’. Give it to the hands of good people who can make good films. Let it be ‘Goa Files’ but let Goa be projected properly,” Mauzo said condemning the statement made by the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti.
After the ‘The Kashmir Files’, a film about the atrocities on Hindu Pandits in Kashmir and ‘The Kerala Story’ on ‘Love Jihad’, HJS national spokesman Ramesh Shinde said that they will discuss the making of ‘Goa Files’ based on the atrocities faced by Hindus at the hands of the Portuguese rule. Shinde is currently in Goa to attend the annual Hindu Rashtra convention underway at Ramnathi.
