Non barricaded pit on the Dhavlim-Ponda road is a death trap to motorists

PONDA: Pondaites has expressed concern over the huge unguarded pit dug on the Dhavlim-Ponda main road, which poses a danger to motorists and pedestrians alike. The chamber was noticed when workers began digging it for laying underground power cables, around 7pm, on Tuesday. 

Viraj Sapre who noticed the chamber said recently one body was found at Bethora roadside open pit. He said this huge pit on the road could only lead to a repeat of such incidents. Sapre said, despite he having filed complaint against the dangerous pit with the authorities who failed to take notice of the dangerous pit. 

Tuesday evening locals at Ponda informed him about pit left open dangerously by the road side on Dhavlim – Ponda road inside the white border line on the road. Viraj said since the pit is located inside the border line it may prove as a death trap for motorist and scooterists. He said he had informed the police who need to take action to prevent untoward incidents here. 

Sapre blamed the contractor for not barricading or installing sign boards properly to warn people about the pits.
