VASCO: On the eve of Goa Liberation Day, the Indian Navy unveiled a detailed model of its newest indigenous stealth-guided missile destroyer, INS Mormugao, at a grand ceremony at Mormugao harbour.
The 30-foot-long model of INS Mormugao, crafted with precision, will be prominently displayed in Vasco town, allowing the public to see the technological prowess of India’s naval capabilities.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Vice Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Flag Officer Commanding in Chief of the Western Naval Command.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant underscored the vessel’s remarkable indigenous content, reaching an impressive 75%, a substantial increase from previous destroyer classes. He emphasized that INS Mormugao epitomizes the “Make in India” initiative, showcasing the nation’s commitment to self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). Sawant expressed confidence that the ship would be an ambassador of India’s maritime strength, proudly representing Goa on the global stage.
The unveiling ceremony held special significance as it coincided with the 61st anniversary of Operation Vijay and the eve of Goa Liberation Day. December 18 commemorates the historic military operation that led to the Liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule, codenamed Operation Vijay.
